This is a very new phrase to enter the world of finances – which in itself is one of the oldest professions, if you’ll pardon the quip. Smart money is basically capital that is very wisely and most successfully controlled by many very well tested institutions in the field. These are the big players, known more frequently as market professionals such as investments houses and central banks – the types who enjoy a greater analytical acumen and operate with market influencers. There are all sorts of avenues that they can operate into – one of the big ideas and one that is very overdue, is teaching young folk the importance of knowing how to look after money; how to budget and keep themselves above the waterline. There is so much credit and quick ways of buying on auction and other online buying sites that offer instant credit and access to ‘buy now, pay later’ schemes. Young folk are growing up and going through school with absolutely no regard to the difficulties of not having enough money to buy the essentials – the social media influencers of today are pivotal in this – sending out so many messages that the young buying public must have this or that latest outfit, design, trend, phone, tablet etc. etc. Rather worryingly, the phrase Smart Money was the name given to successful bets and wagers played by the very top range of gamblers. Whereas the police and other law enforcement agents tend to refer to the alternative phrase “follow the money” when suggesting the best way to catch up with the too successful money exchanges – of the more criminal fraternity. However, today the Smart Money brigade has brought much welcome trading freedoms and the opportunity for many more players in the financial field to observe large scale transactions and track it through CFTC filings .
Some of the bigger institutional players provide Smart Money accounts for youngsters and provide carefully focused literacy workshops with financial operations at the core. They offer true life hands-on experience because to get the youngsters to appreciate a good money habit early on means a good handler of money for life.
