David BlackmoreFountains Abbey walk Sun 11th July 9th Jul 201008:47
This Sunday's walk starts from the village of Markington (North of
Harrogate) and is a circular walk of up to 12 miles, taking in the
Fountains Abbey area and Studley Deer park. It is classed as grade 2/3
as it is a reasonably long walk but there are no large ascents or decents;

Please meet outside the village hall, grid ref SE 288 650 on the
Nidderdale Explorer map, no 298, at 10:15 for a 10:30 start.

The village hall is just a few metres down the road from the Yorkshire
Hussar pub, and on the other side of the road.

The village is probably best reached from the A61 from Harrogate; after
leaving Harrogate, travel to the Ripley roundabout , continue north on
the A61 for about 4 km (about 2.5 miles) and the Markington turnoff to
the left is signposted.

For car parking it is possible to park in the car park for the village
hall, but I would prefer if you park in the church car park, where they
welcome walkers as there is an honesty box system to make donations. To
get to the church car park, travel to the West end of the village and
turn up North up Westerns Lane; the church car park is just up on the
left. If this car park is full then use the village hall car park, but
it may be in demand for locals to park to watch cricket etc.

Any dog brought on the walk must be kept under close control at all
times and on a lead when near any livestock or traffic or when directed by signs.
